What is the Issue?

Cyclone Fani was a powerful storm that hit India’s eastern coast in May 2019. Originating in the Bay of Bengal, it made landfall in Odisha with wind speeds up to 250 km/h, causing widespread damage to homes and infrastructure. Despite extensive evacuations, Fani resulted in 89 deaths and significant economic losses, especially in Odisha, before weakening as it moved toward Bangladesh.

During the distribution of educational kits at Bankimuhan Slum, Puri, Odisha, on June 16th, an issue was observed regarding the adequacy of the supplies. Although the program was successful and the children were delighted to receive the educational kits, it became apparent that the distribution could have been more tailored to the specific needs of each child. While the kits contained valuable resources like books, notepads, and stationery, there was a need for better alignment of the contents with the children’s educational levels and requirements. For future distributions, it is recommended to conduct a more detailed assessment of the children’s educational needs to ensure that the kits are appropriately customized, maximizing the impact on their learning and development.

Relief Efforts

We decided to distribute in a different place but after visiting some places we decided to distribute the kits at Bankimuhan Slum, Puri,Odisha. On 16th of June this month 3 volunteers from Living Humanity went to Bankimuhan with Educational Kits for Distribution and they arranged a meeting and distributed the kits among 108 children.

The educational kit contains various books like dictionaries, word books, grammar books etc. And notepad, pen, geometric box, tiffin box. It was divided as per the need and age of the child which will help them in the long run.

The program was successful. The children were very happy to get all these things.
