WHAT IS THE ISSUE?

According to the Union Ministry of Social Justice, there are approximately 4 lakh individuals in India who rely on alms for survival and live in extremely poor conditions. These vulnerable people face immense hardships, struggling to meet their basic needs such as food, shelter, and healthcare. Their situation underscores the urgent need for social welfare programs that can improve their living conditions and offer them pathways to dignity, rehabilitation, and self-sufficiency.

How are we addressing it?

STdHF extended crucial support to visually impaired individuals who rely on alms, along with their families, by providing essential food materials to combat hunger. These marginalized families, already living in extreme poverty, face significant challenges in accessing basic necessities like food, shelter, and healthcare. Their situation is further compounded by the difficulties associated with visual impairment, making daily life even more strenuous. To alleviate their suffering, STdHF distributed vital supplies, including rice, pulses, vegetables, and cooking oil, ensuring these families had the means to sustain themselves during these difficult times. This initiative was a lifeline for these vulnerable communities, addressing both their immediate hunger and their broader struggle for survival in an unforgiving environment.

In 2020-21 STdHF provided food materials to 10 visually impaired beggar families who work in the Railway track and Railway journey between Chennai and Arakonam in Tamil Nadu.
